Two Years Later
“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”
2 Corinthians 4:17
March 13 marked the two-year anniversary of the pandemic’s onset. It’s hard to believe what began as a two-week experiment to “flatten the curve” rocked our entire planet for two full years. No matter where your beliefs lie, it’s safe to say we were all affected in some way. It has been an emotional, mental, and socially challenging time.
My personal journey through the pandemic had ups and downs. There were days I never thought “normal” would return and I grieved. But there are also wonderful memories: our neighborhood coming together with sidewalk art and obstacles for families to enjoy as they walked, sitting outside as a family talking about life and listening to laughter from our kids playing on the trampoline, driving two hours to a Sheetz just to get out and enjoy a change of scenery . . . and some amazing mozzarella sticks. Slowing down was a true gift from God!
It didn’t take long for my eyes to look back instead of forward. I longed for busy days and normal schedules after a couple of weeks. I acted like the Israelites wandering in the desert, desperate for the days of “normalcy.” I grumbled and didn’t keep my focus on God. He was in control and he foresaw the entire crisis. He provided blessings as encouragement along the way, but it wasn’t easy to grab hold of those.
Life now appears to be returning to normal. It didn’t seem short while we waded through the pandemic, but in light of eternity, it was just a blip. A “light momentary affliction” that perhaps challenged us in ways we didn’t want or expect. On the other side, we can reflect back and see the good. We can focus on the blessings we may not have seen in the thick of the struggle.
I challenge you to spend some time this week reflecting on the past two years, focusing on the lessons learned and the blessings received. Praise God that He always has and always will remain fully in control. Nothing surprises Him!
Blessings,
From God Not Her
*I would encourage you to apply this to all challenges in your life. Jesus never promised us it would be easy. He promised us He has overcome the world and we have our hope in Him. One day, all the wrongs will be righted. All tears will cease. All disease and pain will be gone. Until He returns, we will face tough circumstances. There is always good to be found, though. Blessings surround us.
