You Are Blessed

This year is FLYING by, friends! Here we are in March already! Quick check in: How is your Bible reading going? Comment below to let us know!

You. Are. Blessed.

Do you ever stop to think about that? The other day, chaos broke out at my house after church. I ended up in my room crying and begging God to fix it all because I was simply done. Like, Elijah in the desert done. God, in His ever-loving grace and mercy, met me on the floor and strengthened me. He redeemed my day. In that moment, I had focused on everything that was wrong. Maybe you can relate?

Since that Sunday, I tether myself to God daily. What I learned is even in that moment of disappointment and frustration, I am blessed. I am blessed beyond measure for one simple reason: the God of the Universe, the Author of Life, the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God loves me. He created me. He has never left me or abandoned me. His Spirit came to me in that corner of my room on the floor and flooded me with His love.

Friend, you are so blessed. I don’t know your situation, but I do know this is true. You are blessed for the same reason I am blessed. In our American way, we tend to view “blessings” as tangible items bestowed upon us: our children, our homes, our vehicles, our food, our spouses, etc. But the actual definition of a blessing is “God’s favor and protection.” So yes, items can be blessings from God, but you don’t need anything to be blessed. You are blessed because you are a child of God, the One True King, the Almighty, El Roi.

My stage of life is busy, and I imagine the majority of you would say the same. I have three kids in sports, a husband who travels, and we literally have games/practices most every night of the week and on the weekends. Seasons of chaos are ones in which I am most susceptible to take my eyes off Christ. This season, I’m committing to doing a few things different. I’m going to encourage you to do the same. It will be our March challenge, together.

First, every morning read the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10). These are the opening statements of Jesus’ infamous Sermon on the Mount. He turned the world upside down with these declarations! I’m asking God to work in every heart that accepts this challenge. I pray He will reveal to us His true nature and transform our hearts to be more like Christ.

Second, a few times a week read a praise Psalm out loud to God. I am choosing Psalm 145, which is titled “Praising God’s Greatness.” I started this because I struggle in my prayer life to praise Him, and tend to skip straight to intentions. I don’t want to feel a disconnect from God, and I know focusing on Him and worshipping Him will bring me back in alignment.

Finally, simply look for the good each day. You don’t need to keep a formal journal or gratitude notebook, but each day be intentional about recognizing God’s love for you.

No matter your circumstance, no matter your past, no matter where you are today: You are blessed. You are God’s beloved child.

Blessings,

From God Not Her

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the humble,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.”
Matthew 5:3-10
